Table of Contents

The Hummnbird 859ci HD is a high-end fish finder that offers features and capabilities that are simply unmatched in the industry. If you’re serious about fishing, then this is the fish finder for you.

This unit is great for anglers that ice fish, have small boats, and is used as a bow unit.

Why Choose the Humminbird 859ci HD?

If you have a boat, pairing this unit with a trolling motor is a great way to find fish. For me, I paired this with a Minn Kota st55 motor and it worked flawlessly. I was easily able to find structure, submerged vegetation, and drop-offs with ease.

The transducer that comes with the 859ci is the XNT 9 20 T. This transducer is one of the best in the business and it showed while I was out on the water. I was easily able to see fish at depths of over 40 feet. The resolution and clarity of the screen was amazing, even in direct sunlight.

One of my favorite features of the 859ci HD is the down imaging sonar. This feature allows you to see what’s happening beneath your boat with crystal clear clarity. I was

The 859ci HD gives you the ability to see what’s going on under your boat, even in deep water, and it can give you an edge over other anglers that don’t have this capability.

In addition, the 859ci HD has GPS capabilities built-in, so you can keep track of your position and mark fishing hotspots for future use.

Depth

The depth of the Humminbird 859ci HD is important to consider when using this product. This is because the depth will dictate how far down the device can go without running into any obstacles. The maximum depth that the 859ci HD can reach is 1,000 feet.

However, it is important to note that this depth may vary depending on the conditions of the water. For example, if there are strong currents or waves, the depth may be reduced. It is always best to check with the manufacturer for more information on the maximum depth before using the device in any body of water.

Frequencies

Keep in mind this is not the DI unit. And so the standard listed frequencies are the following, 455/800/200/455 kHz.

About the Brand

Humminbird is one of the leading manufacturers of fish finders and other fishing related electronics. They are based in Eufaula, Alabama, and have been in business for over 45 years.

In that time, they have established themselves as a trusted name in the fishing industry, and their products are used by anglers all over the world.

Downside

Although a great unit, the display is a little small for my liking. I would have liked to see a larger display on this unit, especially with all the information that it can provide.

Also – if you’re still looking for this product brand new, it will be tough. The 859ci is actually discontinued, so you’ll have to find it used.

In Comparison to Other Products

Humminbird 859ci HD vs. Lowrance Elite-7 HDI

The Lowrance Elite-7 HDI is another great option for those in the market for a fish finder. It has many of the same features as the 859ci HD, but there are some key differences that you should be aware of.

First, the Elite-7 HDI has a slightly larger display than the 859ci HD. This can be beneficial if you want to see more information on the screen at one time.

Another difference is that the Elite-7 HDI uses CHIRP technology, while the 859ci HD does not. CHIRP stands for Compressed High-Intensity Radiated Pulse, and it is a newer technology that sends out multiple frequencies of sound waves. These waves provide more information about the fish and the bottom of the body of water, which can be beneficial for those who are serious about fishing.

Finally, the Elite-7 HDI is a bit more expensive than the 859ci HD. This is something to keep in mind if you are working with a budget.

Humminbird 859ci HD vs. Garmin echoMap 70dv

The Garmin echoMap 70dv is another great option for those in the market for a fish finder. It has many of the same features as the 859ci HD, but there are some key differences that you should be aware of.

First, the echoMap 70dv has a slightly larger display than the 859ci HD. This can be beneficial if you want to see more information on the screen at one time.

Another difference is that the echoMap 70dv uses CHIRP technology, while the 859ci HD does not. CHIRP stands for Compressed High-Intensity Radiated Pulse, and it is a newer technology that sends out multiple frequencies of sound waves. These waves provide more information about the fish and the bottom of the body of water, which can be beneficial for those who are serious about fishing.

Finally, the echoMap 70dv is a bit more expensive than the 859ci HD. This is something to keep in mind if you are working with a budget.

Between these two units, it really depends on what you are looking for and what your budget is. If you want a unit with CHIRP technology and don’t mind spending a bit more money, then the Garmin echoMap 70dv would be a great option. However, if you want to save some money and don’t necessarily need CHIRP technology, then the Humminbird 859ci HD would be a great choice.

Biggest Difference with the Humminbird 859ci HD and the Humminbird 859ci HD DI

The only difference between these two units is that the DI unit includes Down Imaging technology. Down Imaging allows you to see a picture of what is beneath the surface of the water, which can be beneficial for those who are serious about fishing. Other than that, these two units are identical.

We find the down imaging feature beneficial when trying to locate fish in heavily vegetated areas. The down imaging allows us to see if there are any fish lurking beneath the vegetation, which can be difficult to do with traditional sonar technology.

Overall Thoughts on Humminbird 859ci HD Review

It’s packed full of features and provides incredible sonar and GPS capabilities. If you can find one used, it’s definitely worth picking up.
